5.2 % alc. vol.
A Full-bodied, smooth Black Beer from the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand. Hands down, this is a great beer.

What's interesting about this beer? The dark star of the West Coast boutique brewery that made bush tucker (food)fashionable is garnering an international reputation with a bronze at the World Beer Cup in New York recently. Brewed in the best German schwarzbier style -- full of dark malts and strong enough to be warming -- Black has carved its own spot in the spectrum.

What does it taste and smell like? Looks like stout, with a head like creme anglaise and the earthy aromas of wood, mushrooms, cocoa and coal. The mouthfeel is full, rich and chocolatey without being heavy, well-balanced by the highish spirit level and subtle hopping.

What food does it suit? The nation's best chefs have been matching Black with everything from well-roasted, heavily sauced game to seafood soup, nut-and-berry cakes, coffee and licorice. It's versatile.
