Cutthroat Porter - sent 1 times

Odell Brewing Company

Brewed since 1993 in United States of America

4.5 % alc. vol.

Cutthroat Porter was introduced in February, 1993 as a house beer for the Mountain Tap Tavern in Fort Collins. The proprietor, the infamous Jim Parker, wanted a porter to round out his tap lineup. Since he asked for the beer, we let him name it. Obviously, he's a fisherman.

Not surprisingly, in 1994, after we realized how good the porter was, and how many fans it had garnered, we made it available to the general public. We started bottling Cutthroat in February 1997, almost a year after our other beers were first bottled. Initially, we were counseled by our distributors that porters were too dark for the average palate, and we didn't want to create a package that wouldnÃŒt sell. Our bottle sales have proved them wrong.

We formulated Cutthroat to be a cross between a stout and a porter. Stouts, as you may know, are a heavy style of porter, with the principal difference being that stouts have more of a roasted barley and black malt flavor. Our porter is somewhat hoppy and has a fairly strong roasted malt flavor. As with all our beers, the flavors are in perfect balance.

Bittering Hops: Galena
Brewer Malts: 2-row barley malt, Chocolate malt, Crystal malt, Amber malt
Finishing Hops: English Kent, Northern Brewer
Yeast: Top fermenting ale yeast
