Saku's Christmas Beer Won Helsinkin Sanomat Blind Test 1997
November 27 - Jõuluporter, a beer from Estonia's Saku Brewery, won first prize at a Christmas beers blind test contest organized by the Finnish Helsinkin Sanomat newspaper.
Saku's beer was considered better than the products of large Finnish breweries such as Olvi, Hartwall and Sinebrychoff. The jury included local beer experts and journalists who evaluated ten Christmas beers produced in Belgium, Finland, Sweden, Norway and Estonia.
The Belgian Christmas beers La Chouffe and Stille Nacht occupied second and third positions, and are produced by Achouffe and De Dolle Browers respectively.
Saku Jõuluporter won the similar contest among Chrismas beers from Germany, States, France, Sweden, Belgium, Finland, UK, Denmark, and Estonia also in 1998.
