What’s special about Scrumpy Jack?
Symonds’ started producing cider in 1727, making them the oldest cider firm in England. Centuries of heritage and craft skills go into the making of Symonds’ ciders, especially their No1 brand, Scrumpy Jack, first blended by Bill Symonds in the 1960s.

Only traditional English cider apples, mostly grown in orchards within a few miles of Hereford, are used. It’s the characteristics of dozens of different varieties of cider apples – Foxwhelp, Yarlington Mill, Chisel Jersey, Brown Snout, Tom Putt, to name just a few – which gives Scrumpy Jack its unique taste.

‘Scrumpy’ was the term used over the centuries to describe farmhouse-made cider. The fermentation was uncontrolled, using a wild yeast which resulted in a hit or miss drink. Today, Scrumpy Jack is made using the best quality yeasts and combines the heritage of cider making with the best technology possible to provide a consistently high quality drink.
