Zambezi - sent 60 times

National Breweries

Brewed since 1990 in Zimbabwe

5.0 % alc. vol.

The Origin

The Zambezi, Africa's fourth largest and most spectacular river, is full of surprises along its 2 700 kilometre route through the sub-tropics. The most phenomenal change in its flow occurs across a 2,7 kilometre wide basalt block, causing up to 500 000 (five hundred thousand) cubic metres of water per second to plunge 100 metres into a narrow chasm. This is Victoria Falls, the biggest single curtain of falling water on earth – One of the Seven Wonders of the World. Zambezi Lager is named after this famous river.

The Beer

Zambezi Lager was launched in 1990 as a premium brand. It is Zimbabwe’s own quality smooth lager with exceptional hops/malt flavour and head retention characteristics. The brand colours consist of a visual of Victoria Falls with green, gold and black surround, with stripped flaming area.

The Accolades

In his article “Beers of the Dark Continent” (Altitude Vol. 3 1997 South Africa) David Lambkin describes the beer as “A delectably dry and effervescent beer….. Offering value for money”. Lambkin goes on to explain the power of nostalgia that surrounds the consumption of Zambezi lager and he writes, “a Zambezi brings back memories of the leaping tiger fish you lost in Kariba”. Green, being the esteemed colour it is, has also bolstered Zambezi Lager’s premium image, and closeness to nature.

The premium status of Zambezi is not just a perceived image, it is also evidenced in its quality. To this end, Zambezi lager scored an achievement envied by any beer by winning a Gold Medal at the International Beer Show, Ontario Canada in 1991.

Zambezi Brand Essence

Zambezi lager consumers are driven by a sense of national pride and success. They enjoy group sociability (conviviality). They are mature and sophisticated people who feel they have a taste of great things. The brand offers them a refreshingly different quality.

Zambezi Lager is and will remain Zimbabwe’s Own Lager and a pride to all.
